8th-9th August Liverpool

Woke up to a sunny day and had breakfast in the Hostel. We walked up the road and caught a bus into the city. We walked through the new pedestrian shopping area down to Albert Dock
where we booked on to the Magical Mystery Tour. We boarded the bus and travelled through Liverpool. Our first stop was the house where George Harrison was born.
Next stop was the gates to Strawberry fields,
such a shame that people feel the need to deface these places, just like Oscar Wilde's grave in Paris. We next drove past John Lennon's childhood home.
Then on past one of Pauls homes and on to Penny Lane.
The last sights to see on the bus where a couple of places where Ringo lived in his youth. Then back into the city where the tour ended near the Carven Club.

We had lunch at a pub again and then headed back down to Albert Docks to do the tour through The Beatles Story, an interactive museum to the beatles where you get headphones to listen to commentary along the way.
It took us around 2 hours to get through it and was very interesting and well worth it. We ended up catching a bus back to the hostel at around 7.15pm then walking back to the shops for some dinner. We spent the evening watching highlights of the opening ceremony of the Olympics on TV and updating the blog.

9th Spent the morning in bed updating photos onto the blog and checking out accommodation and transport for the next part of the journey because it was raining outside. We also watched a bit of the Olympic games coverage. It is very interesting to see the different coverage. In Australia all you get is swimming, gymnastics and equestrian, well maybe not all but the majority of coverage is these sports. We saw swimming, judo, boxing, rowing, yachting and road cycling. Michael Rogers came 6th in the road cycling and I am sure we would not have seen the race in Australia. It stopped raining around 2pm so we set off to the shops to get something for lunch and dinner. We had lunch back at the hostel before setting off into the city to buy our train tickets from Huyton too Barrow-in-Furness for tomorrow. We had another walk around the city passing china town
and visited the Anglican Cathedral
which is the 2nd largest in the world and has the largest pipe organ in the world. We walked past the LIPA buildings (Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts) and stopped in to see the very elaborately decorated Philharmonic Hotel. We then walked on to look at the Metropolitan cathedral
(Catholic) but we arrived just before 6pm and that is when it shut, so we didn’t get to look inside. We then walked back to our hostel. It started to rain again so every time it rained heavily we had to find refuge in a bus shelter. We finished the night off by watching old Hey Hey it’s Saturday clips from You Tube until the wifi connection decided to fail. We then packed up ready for an early start tomorrow.
