7th March to 8th March - Jasper

Spent the morning working out our next travel details as we were advised to take a trip down the Icefields parkway. We also walked the discover Jasper walking trail and walked the 7km back to the hostel.
Saturday we caught the shuttle back into Jasper to meet up with a couple we met at the hostel on Thursday night. Denis and Linda took us for a drive around Jasper for the day.
Our first stop off was Pyramid lake, where we walked out over a bridge to a little island and saw many little squirrels. We also saw a couple of wolves on the other side of the lake (which was frozen).
Our next stop off was fort hill where we walked up a steep incline to view Jasper township and the surrounding mountains.
We then drove out to have a look at the Jasper Park Fairmont Resort. On the way we stopped to take pictures of some big horn sheep and deer that were grazing by the side of the road.
We then went on a spectacular walk through the Maligne Canyon. We started at the top looking into the canyon and walked/slid down the very icy pathway. We crossed 4 bridges over the canyon then descended into the canyon itself to walk on the frozen water up to view the frozen waterfalls.

Last stop was the Medicine Lake which drains into underground rivers during the spring/winter. We had lunch there and headed back into Jasper before Denis and Linda headed back home.

After Dinner we went outside to check out the stars and there was an amazing, spectacular, awsome (not enough superlatives to describe) sight up in the sky. We were treated to a view of the Northern Lights. We stood outside in the freezing cold just looking up into the sky not wanting to go to bed. What a spectacular end to a fantastic day.
